Intelligence services in Palestine have confirmed to President Mahmoud Abbas that the BBC reporter, Alan Johnston, is alive (most newspapers).
"The Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said yesterday that he believedthat Alan Johnston, the kidnapped BBC reporter, was still alive despitea claim by an Islamist group to have murdered him at the weekend."
