The 17 year old daughter of a Philippines radio commentator, Louie Larroza, was kidnapped and held for eight hours before being released unharmed on September 15. She was blindfolded and kept in a warehouse, however police were able to trace her location from the signal on her mobile phone and she was subsequently released. The kidnappers have not been identified or captured. Larroza, the station manager of DYEC radio, had received anonymous threats to his family regarding his critical commentaries in the days before his daughter’s kidnapping.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called for an investigation into the matter.
