Journalist Decapitated in Mexico

Yolanda Ordaz de la Cruz who worked for the Notiver daily newspaper in Mexico was found decapitated on

Tuesday. The note found with her head and body seem to connect her murder to the killing of her co-workers, columnist Miguel Angel Lopez Velasco and his photographer son, in June.

Ordaz covered the police beat for more than 20 years and local reporters believe that her murder is a warning to the press in Mexico.

The CPJ rates Mexico eighth on the list of countries where journalists are murdered regularly and the crimes go unsolved. Fifteen journalists, including Ordaz, have been killed in that country since 2010.
